Forty Years Behind the Lens at RTÉ

Back to Publications
Author: Godfrey Graham
During his 40-year career as a cameraman with RTÉ, Godfrey Graham travelled throughout Ireland, Europe and further afield. Along the way, he worked with many people who were or would become household names, ranging from international movie stars and entertainers such as Robert Mitchum and Lauren Bacall, to presidents and politicians such as Nelson Mandela, John F. and Bobby Kennedy, and Romania’s Nicolae Ceausescu.

Behind the Lens is a fascinating account of the life, times and memories of a cameraman at home and abroad, as he witnessed the evolutionary changes around the world through the lens of his camera.

GODFREY GRAHAM left school at 16, worked for a few years in the photographic business, and then got a job in the editing department with the just-launched Telefis Éireann, eventually becoming a cameraman. A keen cricketer, he held the record as the youngest person to play cricket for Ireland for 49 years.
